Income-Eligible Multi-Family Direct Install Program

At both Evergy and Spire, we want to be your energy-saving partner. So we've partnered to create our Income-Eligible Multi-Family Direct Install Program to deliver long-term energy and bill savings to income-eligible customers living in multi-family homes within our service territories.

The program directly installs free low-flow faucet aerators and shower heads and insulating water-heater pipe wrap. Rebates are also available for property owners for eligible natural gas measures such as furnace or boiler upgrades, and water heating equipment upgrades for the multi-family property which could be as high as 100% of the installed cost of the measure.

*Multi-family buildings are defined as structures of three or more attached unit complexes.

Am I eligible for this program?

We're glad you asked. You're eligible for this program if you:

  • Meet income qualifications and live in a multi-family property
  • Receive natural gas service from Spire and electric service from Evergy
  • Have natural gas space or water heating
  • Meet one of our building eligibility requirements
What are the building requirements?
  • Federally subsidized housing units that meet the federal program’s income guidelines.  State Low-Income Housing Tax Credit buildings will be eligible only to the extent allowed under state law.
  • Non-subsidized housing with income levels at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines.  When a property that has a combination of qualifying tenants and non-qualifying tenants, at least 51% of the tenants must be eligible to receive incentives for the entire building to qualify.  For income-eligible multi-family properties with less than 51% qualifying tenants, the building owner will be required to verify installation of comparable qualified energy efficiency measures at their expense in all non-subsidized units, at which time the IEMF program may upgrade all remaining eligible units with qualified energy efficiency measures.
