Grilling tips from Spire experts

In honor of outdoor cooking season, a few Spire grillers are sharing their favorite tips for safe grilling and their best recipes for you to enjoy this summer.

Natural gas grills are ideal for your grilling needs. With precise temperature control and a constant flow of gas, you can cook your food to perfection without worrying about running out of fuel. No tanks, no coals, no fuss. Just light your grill and you’re ready to get cooking.

An aromatic way to clean

“Use half of an onion to clean your grill grates. Just turn on your grill until it gets hot and rub the onion on the grates. The steam released from the onion will help loosen the debris as you rub it on the grate. This will also season your grates and put a great aroma in the air.” – James, operations supervisor

Metal-free is the way to be

“Never clean your grill with any metallic wire-style brush. The bristles can break off and stick to the grill, which can end up in your food and accidentally be ingested. Nonmetallic grill brushes are readily available at any hardware store or online retailers. Also, keep a fire extinguisher nearby any time you grill. You never know when you’re going to need it.” – Richard, public safety specialist

Keep your grease trap spick-and-span

“Keep your grill in top shape by cleaning it regularly and remembering to empty the grease trap. Built-up grease is a common cause of flare-ups. Always double check that your grill is fully turned off after you finish cooking.” – Kyle, service mechanic
