We’re using our energy to develop an innovative and skilled workforce for the future.
Through partnerships with trade schools, universities, and community and professional organizations, we’re building a pipeline of diverse candidates with skilled talents. And we’re committed to developing people and the skills needed to continue to provide exceptional service to our customers.
Throughout our service area, we collaborate with local high schools to showcase careers in energy to students who may want to pursue trade school or a skilled trade career upon graduation.
We also support hands-on learning in schools that teach students real-life skills, like the Spire Farm-to-Table program in Mobile, AL or the Jennings Community Garden in St. Louis, MO.
We offer a two-year educational, hands-on cooperative learning experience that prepares participants to become highly skilled technicians and/or laborers in the natural gas field, while they complete a relevant associate degree. With the skills developed, students are ready to enter the workforce.
Through our paid summer internship program, undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to apply theory they learn in the classroom with practical work experience. Intern opportunities are offered across the regions where Spire operates.
Spire has teamed up with the Center for Energy Workforce Development and the Birmingham Urban League on a pre-apprentice program designed to bridge the gap between job seekers in underrepresented communities and energy companies.
The Murphy High School Farm-to-Table program provides students and the surrounding community the tools necessary for successful small-impact farming and supports healthy eating and cooking.
Students enrolled in Ranken Technical College and Jefferson College can apply to participate in our cooperative education program, getting hands-on experience with both service and construction departments.
Students who attended the 2023 Kansas City iBuild event were able to build a meter set, view demonstration of how a leak is repaired on a steel pipe and speak with employees about what it's like to work for Spire.
