Meet George Hunter
We’re spotlighting Spire employee George Hunter from Mobile, Al. Learn more about how we’re helping the Gulf Coast – and Alabama – grow.
When George Hunter first began his career in the natural gas industry as a residential marketing representative, he knew his future at the company was bright. But every role he’s held since that day prepared him for where he would eventually land: economic development manager, responsible for growing the southern Gulf Coast region he calls home. His territory also spans the Hattiesburg, MS area.
In this role, George and his team partner with organizations to attract businesses—and growth—to the region.
In 2022 alone, Mobile added more than 1,300 new jobs—with a capital investment of more than $1.2B in the chemical, aerospace, logistics, manufacturing and equipment industries.* That type of growth requires collaboration among the private and public sectors—plus nonprofits, trade groups and economic development organizations.
George represents Spire—and natural gas—in those strategic plans to grow Alabama.
“I work closely with the chambers of commerce and other economic development organizations on potential projects. I’m also responsible for the large commercial and industrial sector of business development, making sure we’re growing alongside our communities,” said George.
Businesses rely on natural gas for making and manufacturing, technology and trade, and everything in between, so George’s role is critical in helping businesses view the entire bay area as a great place for employees to live and for companies to establish and grow their businesses.
George’s love for serving the community extends beyond his work for Spire. He actively volunteers with numerous organizations, like United Way, 100 Black Men, and Habitat for Humanity. George also uses his time and talents serving on the boards of directors for Dearborn YMCA, Keep Mobile Beautiful, Prichard Chamber of Commerce, Partners of Environmental Progress, Innovation Portal and the Economic Development Association of Alabama. And for the past two decades, he’s served as a life skills instructor with the Alabama Safety Institute.
