Here are some things to keep in mind when caulking your windows: 

• Pay attention to the caulk you choose –  use interior caulk for inside your windows, and exterior caulk for outside
  

• Make sure the area around the window is clean when applying
• Apply caulk on a mild weather day, since extremely hot conditions and precipitation may make your caulking less effective 
• Apply the caulk in a continuous and smooth stream
• Smooth out the caulk with a flat edge or smoothing tool
