Connecting with the community in Birmingham

The Magic City Classic, hosted every year at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., is the largest historically black college and university (HBCU) football game in the country. Each year, crowds gather to support the face-off between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University.  2023 marked the 82nd annual game.

The classic is about more than football; it’s an event for the whole community to celebrate. Featuring a parade, school floats, dance teams, political leaders and many local businesses, the celebration also includes networking opportunities for students enrolled in HBCUs to grow their relationships and get inspired.

Spire volunteers were on hand at the event to provide attendees with information on customer assistance programs, career opportunities and the benefits of natural gas.

“Spire’s all about connecting in the community,” shared Joe Hampton, president of Spire Alabama, Gulf Coast and Mississippi. “It’s a great opportunity for us to make connections, build partnerships and relationships and hopefully bring a pipeline of great talent to come to a great place to work like Spire."
